From quarry to slab

Stone is separated into blocks at the quarry, then inspected and selected for processing. The block carries the natural color and pattern that will appear across its sequence of slabs.

The block is sliced into slabs using equipment suited to the stone, such as diamond-wire saws. Keeping track of neighboring slabs helps plan related patterns and, where available, bookmatched pairs.

Some slabs receive resin to consolidate fissures or fill small voids; a backing mesh may also be used. Resin lines can include drying, application, and curing on one or both faces, depending on the material.

Grinding and finishing prepare the slab surface. Progressively finer abrasives produce a reflective polish; honing stops short of a full polish for a satin appearance. The selected finish changes how the stone reflects light.
