Vinyl: flexible, SPC and WPC
Modern vinyl flooring uses a decorative surface to create wood or stone looks. The maker separates flexible Dryback, Loose Lay and rigid-core products; its rigid ranges include both stone-polymer composite (SPC) and wood-polymer composite (WPC).
What makes the difference
Glue-down, loose-lay and locking floors use different installation systems. Overall thickness in millimeters and wear-layer thickness in mils measure different parts of the product. Neither figure alone describes scratch resistance, comfort or the quality of the installed floor.
What changes the price
Compare the core, finish, visual detail, dimensions and installation system. Adhesive, leveling, moisture preparation and transitions can change the installed total even when material prices look similar.
Origin & identity
Wood-grain names describe an appearance unless real wood is explicitly documented. An oak or walnut color does not prove a wood species is present.
What to compare
- Flexible, SPC or WPC core confirmed by SKU
- Measured wear layer and surface coating
- Locking, glue-down or loose-lay instructions
- Attached pad and tested acoustic assembly
- Subfloor flatness, moisture and warranty scope
